Once every month, artists that work with Kuona Trust hold an event dubbed The Kuona Artists Collective Fair at The Alchemist Bar.
About Kuona Trust
Kuona Trust is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 at the National Museum of Kenya to serve visual artists. Located at Dennis Pritt Rd, Nairobi, the Trust has been in the forefront of developing the visual art scene. At least 1,000 artists have since participated in Kuona Programs. It not only provides support, but also assets to artists to make great of potential talent.
Kuona Artists Collective Fair
I attended the monthly collective in February. The Kuona Trust administration started the model in a bid to borrow from the Kuona legacy in the support, collaboration and creation of work with artist. There was work from different artists including Alex Njoroge, Churchill Ongere, Fred Abuga, Elizabeth Nenge among others. Most noteworthy, the inclusion of several female artists stood out.
The styles ranged from mixed media, paintings on canvas, pencil work, sculptures, installation and photography. Furthermore, prices for the artwork was fairly cheap and ranged from Ksh. 5,000 to Ksh. 150,000.
The collective happens every month at The Alchemist.
